Ways of perception Unit 1

Let's begin with a very simple meditation exercise. Please do not believe that you have to 'see, hear or feel' things immediately. Just allow yourself to get away from the mad rush of your everyday life. You'll only be able to improve or heighten your perception if you learn to relax completely and to listen inwards. Once you've experienced how good it feels you will be able to do this exercise wherever you are, such as sitting in the subway, peeling potatoes or in the bathroom. Getting away from the daily routine, even for a short moment, can work miracles. You can practise it before making an important decision, a conference or when your children get on your nerves once again...

Just sit down now and relax. Put your feet solidly on the ground. Your hands are relaxed in your lap, palms turned upwards. Inhale and exhale slowly. Imagine your thoughts being passing clouds. If you'd like to, you can listen to one of your favorite pieces of music. We do not want to achieve anything, you don't even have to do something, just breathe, inhaling and exhaling slowly. You'll see that whenever you meditate or want to relax something will be set into motion. Just remain seated, breathe, your eyes kept shut. Now imagine good, earthen energy getting into you through the soles of your feet, slowly making its way up through your legs and pelvis, finally filling your whole body. You can imagine this energy being of a certain color, a pale bluish white for instance. It both purifies and strengthens you, clearing you up inside and filling you with new strength. The energy now reaches your head, completely filling you. It is flowing through you, circulating, allowing you to breathe more easily. You exhale everything that worries you or makes you nervous thus making room for the new strength inside you. You breathe in and out, in and out... Then clench your fists and open your eyes. Stand up, move around and feel the energy filling you. Squat down now and give some of your enegy back to the earth, either because you think you have too much of it now or maybe because you want to show some gratitude?

Perhaps you think that you've just imagined all of it or that your energy was green or gold. And what about the chakres?

Let's take our time. If your energy was so independent that it took another color, let it be. You probably needed it. Don't forget that each color has its own signification. You have to find your way, and the only way you can find it is your own, very personal way. I'm convinced that everybody has to find his or her personal measure for these things, since there aren't only official standards according to which we should make such experiences. If you make this exercise often enough and feel relaxed and 'earthed'afterwards, capable to cope with all your daily routine, than you've already reached a very important goal. You really do have to believe me when I tell you that working as a medium has shown me firstly that any meditation leads to vibrations and secondly that these vibrations may be too delicate and quiet for you to realize how far you've already gone. When I was studying with the famous Englis medium Gaye Menuir in order to perceive and develop my own capacities as a medium years ago, I believed that these things happened accompanied by firework or loud music, but I'd got it all wrong. Do not put yourself under pressure by listening to all the others bursting with what they have seen or experienced during a meditation. You can only follow and thus experience your own way, since you should live your life authentically. You are, we all are unique. There is one last task for you today: smile and look out of the window. Be happy about a tree, a playing child or a bird on its airy way. And only then should you get back to work.
