2. Lesson

Dear Reader,
welcome to the world of your energy body. Everything
is energy before it transforms into matter so if you
are beginning the journey of exploring and
experiencing this aspect of who you are I suggest
bringing your attention to the physical body. The
chakras are energy centers that exist within and
around the body and are affected by internal and
external influences. For now, we will look at the
second chakra which is located around the sacrum,
genitals, hips and urinary tract, in the lower abdominal
area, just below the naval and lower back.
If this chakra is in a state of imbalance you
may experience tension, pain or cramping in this part
of your body. There are several ways to restore harmony
such as working with the correlating element which in
this chakra is water, doing physical exercise such as
related yoga postures or working with color and sound.
In Sanskrit the 2. chakra is called Svadisthana, from
the root svad, to sweeten. The Hindu symbol has six
petals and contains a crescent moon and a lotus within
a lotus.
This chakra is located in the lower adominal area and
corresponds to bodily functions that are connected to
circulation, urinary elimination, sexuality and
reproduction. It is the seat of our emotions,
sensations, pleasure, movement and nurturance. Because
our present culture associates power, sex and money as
being interconnected, any imbalances in these three
areaswill be reflected in the second chakra. If we
are stifled creatively and are not connecting with our
God given desires and talents, then we will most likely
develop symptoms in our lower abdomen and reproductive
organs.
The physical body is our teacher and pain is the
messenger that is telling us what we need to pay
attention to.
Here we are dealing with the element water, the color
orange, the sound "vam," the sense of taste, the
celestial body moon, and the intake of liquids.
The corresponding right is the right to feel.
In working with the element of water you can simply
drink a glass of water, sit quietly and become aware
as it flows into every part of you. Feel the coolness
as it goes into your stomach and imagine it passing through
your entire body. Take a bath or a shower and bring
your awareness to the water flowing around you. Think
of the things that you would like to cleanse from your
self and imagine them being carried away by the water.
Use not only your imagination but also your emotions
and visualize yourself being and doing what you
desire. Picture a waterfall showering blessings upon
you. Dress yourself in clean clothes. Drink another
glass of water, silently and think about it's nature
which is one of adaptability and nurturance. Offer a
prayer of gratitude.

The Goddess Pose.
Lie flat on your back and relax,
especially the legs, pelvis and lower back.
Bend your knees, bringing your feet in close to your buttocks.
Slowly allow your knees to part allowing the weight of
the legs to stretch the inner thighs.
Do not push or strain. When you reach the point of sensation, hold
this position.
Inhale and as you exhale send the
breath to wherever you feel tension.
Stay in this posture for at least one or two minutes.
Then bring your knees together again, very slowly and smoothly,
breathing deeply and remembering to relax.
Hip Circles. From a standing position, bend your knees
slightly, and drop your pelvis forward so that it is
directly in your central line of gravity.
Keeping the knees bent and flexible, rotate the pelvis in smaller,
then larger circles.
Keep the torso, head and neck in
the same central position.
Rotate the pelvis in a clockwise direction and
then in a counter clockwise
direction. |
