Yoga
Dear Readers,
It seems that we are gradually coming to the
realization that in order to establish health and
harmony in our lives that it is necessary to bring
attention not just to the physical body but also to
the inner body. A wonderful way to take you there is
through the ancient practise of Yoga.
The word itself comes from the sanskrit language and
means 'union'. It is believed to have originated in
India over 6000 years ago. While there are many
different forms, they all share a common goal, the
experience of perfect self knowledge. The postures
that one performs are called asanas and breath work is
referred to as pranayama. Classes will vary, depending
on the style and teacher, from being extremely
strenuous as in Bikram Yoga, to being a deeply
relaxing and strengthening session as in Kripalu Yoga.
Personally I have attended classes that have
concentrated solely on breathwork and postures to
longer sessions that have included meditation. So
whether you are interested in bringing attention to
your spirit or are just seeking a form of physical
exercise, Yoga can fulfill your needs.
