Everything is rather earthly in the hotel lobby. The tasteful reception, hectic business men and women - more or less marked by success. And then the elevator opens like the curtain on a stage and out she walks, or even glides, with her 5 foot 2, and for a moment all the men and women in their dresses and suits lose their composure for a second. The dealing with the hereafter seems to have rubbed off on. Elf or fairy, creature from another planet - the American from Santa Fé supports the myth with her silver-blond hair falling losely over her shoulders, the white tunic, that reaches to the floor with a wide, turquoise velvet coat. Instead of a normal handbag a silk scarf as fine as a cobweb flutters at her arm.
No she is really not like us: Six children - the youngest is 12, nine books in 10 years, a Light Institute, the Nizhoni-school, every year lecture tours... and not a sign of stress or exhaustion. With 54 and a double grandmother Chris Griscom still has the charisma of a young woman.
As she comes closer and smilingly spreads out
her arms, I see that even fairies do get older. Without make-up she shows
self-consciously a whole landscape of wrinkles. But only for one second. But
then I am caught up in her charisma, the description of which fills the
papers. With 'radiating blue-green eyes' and her 'hypnotic look', that has
'the effect of a beacon', she is travelling from country to country. Maybe it
is this look, the room-filling presence, that is the secret of Griscom's
success. Whether she thanks the "Welcome Austria" person in charge,
who takes her coat, or smiles at the woman who does her make-up, or gives
instructions to the translater - she gives the impression, that this person is
the most important thing in the world at the moment. "That's correct. I
am always living the moment, and I am always onehundred percent present,
whatever I'm doing. When I'm with my children, I don't want to be anywhere
else, and I don't think of anything else. When I'm treating a person, this
person is my centre of attention, and when I appear on stage, it's the same.
Therefore I am seldom exhausted. I bundle up my energy for what happens right
now, and I don't split up my powers.
